Recommendation (for Operation Ferdy, the assault by 251 Brigade on Vibo Valencia Marina, some 25 miles behind the German Line, on 8th September, 1943):
"This officer, while in command of L.S.T.65, displayed courage and determination in entering the harbour while under heavy shell and mortar fire. Although his ship was hit several times and some vehicles on deck were on fire, he succesfully beached his ship, and all vehicles, including guns which were urgently required, were discharged within 95 minutes. By his determination, he materially helped the military situation which at that time gave rise to some anxiety."
