"In recognition of distinguished services in the cause of the Allies."
"For exceptional meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services:
Field Marshal Slim, G.B.E., K.C.B., C.B., C.B.E., D.S., M.C. during the period October 1943 to May 1945, as Commanding General, Fourteenth Army, rendered outstanding meritorious service by his unusually competent command of a series of operations which resulted in overwhelming defeat of the Japanese forces in Burma thereby preserving vital communication lines to the American forces operating in the northern section of that country. His superior professional ability in jungle warfare enabled his command to traverse rapidly and effectively extremely difficult terrain and by combining the elements of surprise he was able to successfully rout the enemy. Later in 1945 and 1946 Field Marshal Slim, as Commander-in-Chief, Allied Land Forces, South East Asia, by his sound judgment and forceful leadership welded these forces into a smoothly operation unit. His superior professional competence, keen vision and dedication to the ideals of peace distinguish him as an outstanding proponent of liberty and democracy."
