"During the action at Point 290 on 21 April 1943 after being ordered to withdraw his platoon Serjeant BOYLEN whilst under MG and Mortar fire went back into the farm which was then blazing to rescue his runner who was wounded in one leg.

On the next day during the attack on ARCUB HAMRA Serjeant BOYLEN again showed complete disregard for his personal safety when he carried back a wounded N.C.O. whilst under heavy MG and Mortar fire. After this he took command of the remainder of 2 platoons and then led them forward to the objective."
