"On the 25th September 1944 during the assault crossing of the Neder Rijn, Private Driver's Company Commander was seriously wounded in the legs after landing on the enemy shore. Private Driver, who was the Company Commander's batman, carried the officer to the river, found an assault boat and assisted him back across the river and as far as the Regimental Aid Post. This was over 600 yards of river and ground which was under continued mortar and small arms fire. By his initiative and courage, he undoubtedly saved the officer's life."
