"General Sir Bernard C. T. Paget, K.C.B., D.S.O., M.C., British Army, displayed exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding service to the United States Armed Forces in the Middle East, from January 1944 to August 1945. As Commander-in-Chief, Middle East Forces, British Army, General Paget was, through his cooperative spirit and by rendition of every possible assistance to the American forces responsible in a high degree for the successful accomplishment of the United States mission in this theater. The acquisition of land for air bases and the turnover of existing technical installations to our forces in the building and use of airfields in Egypt, Sudan, Cyrenaica, Tripolitania, Palestine, Syria, and Arabia were due to his earnest desire to materially aid the United States for allied goodwill and his personal assistance was an object lesson in Anglo-American relationship."
