Biography

Walter Guinness served in the British Army from 1899–1918 and reached the rank of Brigade Major.

He and his driver were assassinated by the Jewish group Lehi on 6 November 1944 in Cairo.

"For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty as brigade major throughout operations and during a subsequent retirement. He carried out continual reconnaissances under heavy shell fire and with an absolute disregard of danger, and on one occasion he personally assisted to re-establish the line, leading forward men who had fallen back. His fine example and untiring energy and his reports throughout were invaluable."
