Landing Memorial Erika Westkapelle

The monument is located south of the former flooded dike-hole near the dune "Erika" and consists of two memorial next to each other.
On both stones is a plaque and the right stone is identical to the left stone in the Tank Memorial that is placed on the north side of the former flooded dike-hole.
The stones were erected in memory of the 172 crew members of the English landing-vehicles who were killed at Westkapelle at 1 november 1944.

The text on the left plaque:
In memory of those of the Royal Navy and Royal marines who
died off these shores on 1 st. november 1944 whilst serving with
landing craft or support squadron eastern flank.


The text on the right plaque:
4 British liberation army command Brigade landed here or 1 november 1944 to liberate the Island.
