Of the Ritterkreuz mit Eichenlaub und Schwertern a total of 148 formal awardings are known. Of this are 146 numbered and on awarding, to Generalmajor Hermann-Heinrich Behrend was withot number. Some sources give another eight awardings to Generalleutnant Hermann Niehoff, General der Panzertruppen Karl Decker, SS-Obersturmbannführer Otto Weidinger, SS-Obersturmbannführer Günther-Eberhardt Wisliceny, SS-Brigadeführer Sylvester Stadler, SS-Obergruppenführer Wilhelm Bittrich, General der Panzertruppen Fritz-Hubert Gräser and General der Fallschirmtruppen Eugen Meindl. Of all these recommendations there has never been found any formal proof of awarding. Also sometimes a number of awardings made on May 9th, 1945 are suggested. Any awarding on May 9th, 1945 was however not permitted. Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto was the only foreing recipient.
