Kommandeur, 15. Infanterie-Division, Heer

April 30th, 1945
On the 19.02.1945 Generalmajor Laengenfelder and his Division were able to foil a Soviet breakthrough attempt conducted by 5-6 divisions of the 50th and 51st Rifle Corps along both sides of the Losonc—Altsohl road. The same turn of events repeated itself the next day with the focal point of the battle being at Viglas.

Later, on the 25.02.1945, the Soviets reached the village of Zvol. Slatina, however the western part of the village was held under Laengenfelder’s personal leadership in the face of 9 hostile attacks. The next day all Soviet attacks were repelled successfully and a breakthrough in the sector of the XXIX. Armee-Korps failed to materialize.

Laengenfelder would be decorated with the Oakleaves for his role in these defensive successes.

Unnumbered award, would have been the 856th award when numbered.
