Imperial War Museum London

The Imperial War Museum, founded in 1917 in London, is one of the most famous war museums in the United Kingdom and beyond. The museum, located in the former Royal Hospital in the district Lambeth since 1936, gives a broad view of the military conflicts and wars which the country has had to endure, since the start of the First World War.

On five floors you are guided along various expositions and a couple of temporary exhibitions. Among the regular features of the museum are:
• Holocaust Exhibition: the horrors of World War Two;
• Secret War: MI5, espionage and special forces;
• Extraordinary Heroes: heroes who made history;
• A Family in Wartime: the life of an average family in the war;
• Curiosities of War: unusual objects from war times;
• First World War Galleries: images from the front line.

Besides these regular features (and more) there is a central atrium in the building, filled with big equipment like a T-34 tank, a Harrier jet and a V2 missile. The museum makes sure there is a constant renewal of the temporary exhibitions, to always give the visitor something new to see. Because of this high standard of innovation the museum has been often rewarded with all kinds of awards.

When visiting the Imperial War Museum one could easily combine this with a visit to the Churchill Museum and Cabinet War Rooms or the museum ship HMS Belfast.
